Danijah Taylor, also known as Danijah Danijah and Uncle Dan, is a young Jamaican multi-award-winning writer, author, educator, visual artist, and content creator. In 2017, he founded the social enterprise Studio Dan after winning his first JCDC Creative Writing Award in 2016 for the short story “Orlando Jack”. Studio Dan specializes in self-publishing and printing authentic Jamaican and Afrocentric reading books, textbooks, and live edutainment events that focus on improving literacy, creativity, and critical thinking among young people, known as “penpowerment”. This initiative has impacted hundreds of at-risk children in Ghana, the USA, and Jamaica. Studios Dan’s programs, including “Read Write Now,” a creative writing curriculum for early childhood institutions that uses creative teaching tools such as puppets, animated videos, and worksheets to foster the love of reading and writing from an early age, and “Writing 4 Life,” a free creative writing workshop that teaches the power of the pen in a 4-week writing process, have been successful. In 2021, Danijah received an award from Prime Minister The Most Hon. Andrew Holness for his digital art “Outta Many One,” which was featured on the Office of the Prime Minister’s Calendar 2021.
